The Camping Gear Volume Problem

Right, so let me explain what festival camping gear actually involves.

Typical Festival Camping Kit (Per Person):

  • Tent (small 2-person tent in bag, or share of larger tent)
  • Sleeping bag (bulky roll)
  • Roll mat or air mattress
  • Camping chair (foldable)
  • Clothes for 3-5 days
  • Wellies (always wellies, UK festivals are mud)
  • Coolbox or food bag
  • Personal items (washbag, phone charger, etc.)

Vehicle Requirements:

Passengers Camping Gear Vehicle Needed Why
1-2 people Full camping kit each Estate or small MPV Two tents plus sleeping bags fills standard car boot
3-4 people Full camping kit each MPV or minibus A standard car physically cannot fit this volume
Sharing a large tent Reduces volume slightly Still need MPV for 3+ people Shared tent helps, but still tons of gear

People massively underestimate camping gear volume. They think “it’s just a tent”, but a tent plus a sleeping bag plus a chair plus wellies plus clothes for 4 days for 3 people absolutely will not fit in a standard saloon car.

For festival group transport, check MPV capacity options that handle camping gear volumes properly.

FAQs:

Do you transport festival camping gear?

Yes, but vehicle size matters. Two people with a full camping kit need an estate or a small MPV because the tent, sleeping bags, chairs, wellies, and multi-day clothes fill the entire boot.

Three or four people with camping gear need a proper MPV or minibus – a standard car physically cannot fit this volume. Specify “festival camping gear” when booking so the appropriate vehicle gets allocated. Trying to fit four people with tents into a standard saloon doesn’t work.

What about muddy passengers after festivals?

Light mud is fine and expected. Wipe the worst mud off wellies before getting in the vehicle. Dusty camping clothes are normal. Unwashed hair from camping is expected.

What needs basic cleanup: wellies completely caked in mud (wipe down first), clothes so muddy they’ll stain seats (bag them or change), soaking wet gear (squeeze out excess). We understand festivals are muddy, but a basic cleanup attempt is appreciated.

Can you do festival-to-airport same day?

Depends on the festival finish time and flight time. Glastonbury finishes Monday morning, afternoon flight might work if you skip the tent packdown chaos and leave early. Reading/Leeds finish Sunday, evening flight possible.

But you’ll be tired, dirty, and probably hungover. Consider whether catching a flight the same day the festival ends is actually a good idea for your well-being. A day or two of recovery is often worth it.

What festivals do people commonly fly to?

Most festival transfers we do are UK festivals with international travellers. People flying to Manchester for Reading/Leeds/Parklife, then needing an airport return.

Or people from Manchester flying to European festivals (Tomorrowland Belgium, Primavera Spain) with camping gear. Less common: flying to Glastonbury because it’s a nightmare to reach even domestically. Parklife is local, so there are more domestic transfers.

How far ahead to book festival transfers?

Week ahead minimum for major festivals. Reading/Leeds Festival weekend in August needs a week’s notice. Glastonbury needs 7-10 days. Parklife, being Manchester-local, needs 3-5 days.

Return journeys from festivals need similar notice. Festival weekends have limited vehicle availability (lots of transfers happening), so book earlier than normal airport transfers.

Do you pick up from festival campsites?

No, we pick up from your home address before the festival or from designated festival car parks after the festival. We don’t enter festival campsites (security, traffic chaos, impossible navigation).

Standard pattern: drop you at the festival car park entrance with gear (you walk to the campsite), or collect you from the festival car park exit after you’ve walked out with gear. Festival internal logistics are your responsibility.

The Muddy Passenger Reality

Post-festival pickups involve dirty passengers. Let’s be honest about standards.

What’s Fine: Light mud on wellies (wipe worst off before getting in). Dusty clothes from the camping field. Hair that clearly hasn’t been washed in a few days. Smell of camping and outdoors. This is all expected and acceptable.

What Needs Basic Cleanup: Wellies completely caked in mud (wipe them down with grass or tissue first). Clothes so muddy they’ll stain seats (put a plastic bag down first or change into cleaner clothes). Absolutely soaking wet everything (squeeze out excess water).

What’s Not Acceptable: Getting in a vehicle covered head-to-toe in mud with zero cleanup attempt. Bringing in the tent still dripping wet from rain (dry it a bit first). Food waste or rubbish mixed in with gear.

The Balance: We understand festivals are muddy. We understand you’ve been camping. We’re not expecting spa-fresh passengers. But basic consideration – wipe the worst mud off boots, shake out the tent before packing, don’t bring literal rubbish into the vehicle.

Similar cleanliness considerations as wedding transport, but opposite end of the spectrum – weddings are pristine, festivals are practical camping standards.

What Festival Transport Actually Involves

We’ve been doing festival airport transfers since 2018. Licensed under Wolverhampton Council (PHOP445). And let me explain what festival transport means because it’s different from standard airport transfer.

Festival transport usually involves camping gear. Tent, sleeping bag, camping chair, coolbox, clothes for multiple days, wellies. This is way more luggage than a standard holiday. A standard car boot won’t fit it.

Then there’s the cleanliness reality. Outbound journey to the festival? Clean passengers, clean gear. Return journey from the festival? Passengers who’ve camped in a field for 3-5 days. Muddy boots. Dirty clothes. Tired people who haven’t showered properly in days.

We’ve probably done 60-80 festival transfers over the years. Most are Reading or Leeds Festival (August). Some are Glastonbury (June). Occasional Parklife Manchester (local). Mix of outbound (clean) and return (muddy) journeys.
