What Holiday Season Actually Covers
We’ve been doing holiday season airport transfers since 2018. Licensed under Wolverhampton Council (PHOP445). And let me explain what “holiday season” means because it’s not just summer.
Holiday season is any school holiday period. Summer holidays (six weeks July-August), Easter holidays (two weeks), October half term (one week), February half term (one week), Christmas holidays (two weeks). These are the peak family travel times.
The pattern is consistent. The week before the school holiday starts, everyone flies out. The week before school resumes, everyone flies back. Saturday and Monday mornings are chaos at airports during these windows.
We’ve probably done 4,000-5,000 holiday season transfers over the years. About 50% are summer holidays (Spain, Greece, Turkey). About 20% are Easter (skiing, early summer trips). About 30% are half-term breaks (quick European getaways).

School Holiday Calendar and Transfer Patterns
Let me break down actual UK school holiday periods and when airports get busy.
| Holiday Period | Typical Dates | Duration | Airport Chaos Level | Booking Notice |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easter | Late March/Early April | 2 weeks | High | 7 days ahead |
| May Half Term | Late May | 1 week | Very High | 7-10 days ahead |
| Summer Holidays | Mid July-Early Sept | 6 weeks | Extreme | 7-10 days ahead |
| October Half Term | Late October | 1 week | Moderate-High | 5-7 days ahead |
| Christmas | Mid Dec-Early Jan | 2 weeks | High (see Christmas page) | 10-14 days ahead |
| February Half Term | Mid February | 1 week | Moderate | 5 days ahead |
Summer Holidays (July-August): Six weeks of absolute madness. Everyone is going to Spain. Families to Greece. Kids to France. This is 40-50% of our annual holiday transfers compressed into six weeks. Saturday mornings in July are mentally busy. Book 7-10 days ahead minimum.
Easter Holidays: Two weeks, split between ski trips (early Easter) and beach holidays (late Easter). Lots of families. Moderate chaos. Week-ahead booking is sensible.
Half-Term Breaks: Quick European getaways. Disneyland Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam. May half-term is busiest (weather improving). October half-term moderate. February half term quieter (weather rubbish, people staying home).

FAQs:
Do you charge extra during school holidays?
No, same fixed rates year-round. Manchester to the airport costs £35-40, whether it’s peak summer holidays or quiet off-season. A family of four transfers costs the same in July school holidays as in November on a weekday. Many taxi companies add a 20-40% school holiday surcharge, but we don’t do seasonal pricing. The only difference is that you need to book further ahead (7-10 days summer holidays versus 24 hours normal times).
How far ahead to book summer holiday transfers?
Summer holidays (July-August) need 7-10 days’ booking. May half term similar. Easter holidays are 7 days. October half term 5-7 days. The February half-term is 5 days. Christmas period: 10-14 days. School holiday weeks have much higher demand than normal periods, so earlier booking ensures vehicle availability, especially for larger families needing MPVs or minibuses.
What vehicle for a family of four with holiday luggage?
A family of four on a two-week holiday needs an MPV or estate, minimum, not a standard car. Four large suitcases plus hand luggage plus pram/buggy plus beach gear do not fit the standard car boot. Specify “family of four, two-week holiday luggage” when booking so the appropriate vehicle gets allocated. Trying to fit two weeks’ family holiday luggage in a standard saloon causes problems at pickup.
When are airports busiest during holidays?
Saturday mornings during school holidays are absolute chaos. Everyone is flying out for week-long breaks. Monday mornings are also very busy (long weekend trips). Quieter times: Tuesday-Thursday mornings, evening flights any day. If you can choose flight times, Tuesday-Thursday departures have less airport chaos than Saturday-Monday during school holiday weeks.
Do holiday transfers include flight tracking?
Yes, same flight tracking as any airport transfer. System monitors your flight automatically. If the return flight from the holiday is delayed, pickup adjusts based on the actual landing time. Standard 1 hour free waiting from landing applies. Holiday flights are often more likely to be delayed (summer thunderstorms, busy airports), so tracking matters even more during peak seasons.
Can we book a return transfer when booking outbound?
Yes, return bookings work well for holidays with definite dates. Book both outbound (Saturday start of holiday) and return (Saturday end of holiday) together. One booking covers both journeys. Saves rebooking hassle. If holiday dates might change or extend, book outbound definitely and sort return closer to the time. Most families know exact holiday dates, so return booking makes sense.
